Heidi Dahlberg – Commercial Process and Sales Excellence Director

Heidi switched from accounting to sales management and is considering whether to start piano lessons again

Heidi Dahlberg had an exciting career opportunity to try something completely new. She currently leads Stockmann’s commercial process and internal sales service development.

What do you do at Stockmann and how did you end up working here?

I lead Stockmann’s commercial planning and sales supporting teams. We develop, for example, sales digitalisation, shift planning, customer service and internal services. I worked in finance for a long time, and in my current role, I get to use both my understanding of accounting and my passion for numbers. A few years ago, I was offered the opportunity to become the head of the Tapiola department store. I was terrified when I realised what I was about to take on, but the position was wonderful and definitely one of the most fun in the company. From Tapiola, I moved on to my current position. My role at Stockmann is completely new and it’s great that I can shape it to suit me.

What is the best thing about your job?

First of all, I love department stores and often visit them, even when travelling abroad. I think Stockmann offers customers a lovely break from everyday life. Secondly, I get to work in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. We are genuinely happy for each other’s successes. I can work independently in fast-paced, sometimes challenging situations, but I have the support of a large group of great colleagues.

Share one surprising thing your colleagues don’t know about you.

I played the piano when I was young; I was more diligent than talented, though. My favourite tune was theme music from the movie The Deer Hunter, which I might still be able to play with a little practice. But I think I need to put piano lessons on hold for now, I’d rather do my Zumba.

Your most memorable moment at Stockmann?

I have countless lovely memories throughout my long career. The best moments have been celebrating successes together. Shared joy is double joy; it feels great to look back and say “We did it!” Celebrating great achievements and enjoying them together brings a lot of energy and strengthens the team spirit.

What is the best way to wow customers?

When people are happy at work, the atmosphere is conveyed to customers. They feel welcome and give a lot of feedback on Stockmann’s unique service. Special, sparkling moments are created by listening to, understanding and appreciating customers and colleagues.
