Pauli Dahlbom – Head of Data & Analytics
Pauli relies on data both in customer service and pizza baking
Pauli Dahlbom, working with artificial intelligence (AI), analytics and automation, sees that it is not enough to just collect data, but that data needs to be processed to make smart decisions. He wants his work to make life easier for both Stockmann staff and customers.

What do you do at Stockmann and how did you end up working here?
I’m responsible for data, analytics, AI and automation at Stockmann. In a nutshell, my job is to understand the value we get from all the data we collect and how we can use it to drive our business and processes in a smart way. For example, how to link forecasting models to shift planning so that we can serve our customers as well as possible. I used to work as a consultant and Stockmann was my client. About three years ago, I was happy to start working here.
What is the best thing about your job?
AI and process automation can make our workload easier, but also our work more meaningful. It’s great to be able to help colleagues in this way. For example, we have been able to use generative AI to produce better product information for our online store. This means our experts can spend more time on more relevant tasks and customers can get more comprehensive information about our products.
Share one surprising thing your colleagues don’t know about you.
During the Covid years, I became fascinated with baking pizza Napoletana. I’m a data believer, so I measure recipes to the gram. I also have a state-of-the-art pizza oven at home. My favourite pizza is made with pickled cucumber, pepper mettwurst, capers, sour cream and honey.
Your most memorable moment at Stockmann?
One great team success has been the renewal of our HR system. My first task was to pitch the reform first to the management team and then to the board. My then immediate superior organised a party for our team as soon as we got the green light for the project. The system went live a short while ago and will facilitate our HR processes in many ways.
What is the best way to WOW customers?
I believe that data helps us serve customers in a more personalised way. A great customer service person knows the customer extremely well and can, for example, suggest the right products and treat them with warmth. These encounters are supported by data so that our people can be truly present to the customer.
